BUILD A BETTER PUTTING STROKE

It is important as a player to have a putting stroke that gives you the best opportunity to make putts. This means the stroke must repeat well and the the alignment must be correct. In order to change a putting stroke we must first determine what the problem currently is. Is it a problem with speed or line.

If your problem is mainly with the line, check the following items:
  1. Is your putter face aimed properly?
  2. Are your eyes directly over the line of your putt?
  3. Are you using too much wrist?
  4. Are you over/under reading break?
  5. Are you lining up differently each time?
If your problem is mainly with speed, check the following list:
  1. Are you squeezing the putter too tightly?
  2. Are you using too much wrist?
  3. Are you decelerating or jabbing your putts?
  4. Are you unaware of uphill and downhill speeds?
The following is a list of things to do to be a consistently good putter
  1. Practice your alignment.
  2. Use soft hands when taking your grip.
  3. Keep the putter head on line.
  4. Keep the head and body steady during the stroke.
  5. Accelerate through and hold your finish position.
Practice pays off with putting. These items can be worked on at home in the evening or at the golf course.

NOTE: You can practice at home or the golf course, but not practicing is not an option!!
